Venison Chili Recipe

Had chili for dinner yesterday, figured I would post the recipe. This does not make a very spicy chili since we are still feeding small children in the house, but you can up the chili powder if you like it hotter:
Brown in a heavy pot with a little olive oil:
2 lbs venison burger - we prefer moose, but deer is fine
1 med. onion, chopped
1/2 cup chopped green pepper
2-3 cloves garlic chopped or big spoonful of the chopped garlic in a jar

Add:
1 can drained kidney beans
2 big cans B & M Baked beans - we usually have chili the day after having baked beans for supper, so we just use whatever is leftover :-)
2 big cans tomatoes
Jar of salsa if you have one on hand
1/3 cup sugar
4 beef boullion cubes
2 tsp chili powder - more to taste

Let simmer together at least 1/2 hour, a couple hours is better. Simple, quick, easy and never any leftovers here! I guess this amount would serve 4-6

Best served with my mom's Sour Cream Cornbread recipe:
3/4 cup cornmeal
1 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sour cream
1/4 cup milk
1 beaten egg
2 TBS oil

Mix all ingredients just enough to blend.
Pour into greased 9" pan
Bake 20 min @ 425

New Blog Started!

Ok, so I went to update the last blog I had here, I couldn't sign in, couldn't figure out which email I had used to create the account, password, nothing, so here we are, back at square one starting from scratch. You might notice that I changed the title a little bit, I wasn't doing to well with the video review thing, so I decided I would just let this be whatever I feel like writing about, sometimes just life in general, sometimes letting you know what is new at the website, new videos we get in for review, etc.

Our newest addition: Video Playlists on the site! I figured out how to get a video playlist uploaded onto the webpage, I am pretty pleased with myself, and I think I can figure out how to get more on in the near future! Check it out, I probably have a few bugs to work out, but it seems to funtion ok: http://www.mooseridgetradingpost.com/videopreviews.html

Also, be sure to follow us on Twitter, the only place you will find our daily DVD of the day with free shipping. @MooseRidge

I think that's about it for now-

Until next time ~Wendy

Alices Restaraunt Massacre ( in four part harmony)

Memories of 2 tons of garbage, shovels and rakes and other implements of destruction, 27 8 x 10 color glossy photograhs with circles and arrows and a paragraph on the back of each one & sitting on the group W bench ....

Recently my dad came out for a visit and it was great to see him. As so often happens when ones parents come to visit, we talked about childhood memories. This particular conversation I was asking my dad if he still had his record collection and he told me yes, he did. My memories of my dad's record collection are many, it was the source of many hours if entertainment for my brother and I growing up, putting huges stacks of 45's on the record player, dancing to the stripper with my group of best friends on my 13th birthday party - heck, we were only 13, the only thing that came off were some shoes and scarves we twirled around - Oldies that I grew up with, Elvis, The Mamas and the Pappas, Buddy Holly, and that song about the guy who is forever stuck riding the subway in Boston because he forgot to bring money for a token to get off.

But that's not really what this posting is about ....

I also asked my dad if he happened to have the Alices Restaraunt record and of course he does, which made me chuckle just thinking about it - I loved listening to that growing up! I was thinking that next time I took a trip out there to see him, I would have to try to get a recording of it and then it dawned on me that I could probably just download it on the computer.... So I did ... Minutes later I had all 18 1/2 glorious minutes of Alice's Restaraunt Massacre downloaded and on my MP3 player ... and it was great, just like I remembered it!

An then I played it for my kids, and it confirmed what they already knew, ... their mom was really weird. So for all of you ther weird people out there, here is Arlo Guthrie's present day rendition of Alices Restaruant - play it for your kids - and they can think you're weird too!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!
